EU Regulation (EU) 2017/821 came into force in 2021. Dodd Frank Act Section 1502 has been in place since 2012. This training covers why and how companies are covered by the regulation. Companies importing tin, tantalum and tungsten, ores of these metals and gold have to comply with the requirements of the legislation. How do you comply with the requirements? We provide the tools to get your company started.

Minerals whose extraction supports conflict have come to be known as 'conflict minerals'. To prevent Western demand for minerals from financing conflicts in conflict-affected or high-risk areas, the EU and the US have developed Regulation 2017/821 and Dodd Frank Act Section 1502 respectively. The legislation aims to ensure that companies have better control over where the minerals they use come from.

This training covers Regulation 2017/821 and Dodd Frank Act Section 1502, how companies are affected by the requirements and how to work towards compliance based on the OECD Due Diligence Guidance. The aim of the training is to give participants a basic understanding of the requirements around conflict minerals and inspiration to start working on their companies. Lectures will be interspersed with discussions.
